The Charity of the Ancient Parish of Bisley (CAPB) makes grants to residents and formally established groups within the Ancient Parish, which includes the Gloucestershire villages of Bisley, Eastcombe (east of the Toadsmoor Brook), Bussage, Oakridge, France Lynch, Chalford (north of the River Frome), Througham,
Bournes Green and Waterlane (see map).

The charity is an amalgam of a number of small local charities, some of which were established over 300 years ago to help those in need in the Ancient Parish of Bisley (see History). It is administered by seven locally appointed trustees.

The combined assets are invested in the COIF Charities Investment Fund. The only land remaining is that known as the Chestergate Allotments in Bisley. The land is held in trust for the charity by the Official Custodian of Charities and is currently leased to Bisley-with-Lypiatt Parish Council.

How can we help?

We can offer support to residents of the Ancient Parish (see map) in many ways, including the provision of grants or goods to help:

• those in need, where state support is not available, or where unexpected hardship has arisen

• the sick, suffering and those who are convalescing or in need of rest or of obtaining domestic help during illness

• those who are in hospital

• young people participating in work-related experience at home and abroad where this is of a charitable nature

How to apply

We aim to provide help where it is most needed. If you know of someone from the Ancient Parish who is in particular need and who you believe may benefit from the charity’s support, or indeed if you are in need yourself, please read our Applications page.

Please note The trustees are not permitted to make grants in payment of rates or taxes, or to make recurring gifts. All grants, whether financial or in kind, are at the discretion of the trustees. You may be asked to supply the names and contact details of referees.

The trustees of the Charity of the Ancient Parish of Bisley also welcome donations, gifts and legacies which will be invested in the COIF Charities Investment Fund in order to increase the disposable income of the charity for those in need in the future.
